Dr. Will Kimball, professional trombonist, has performed guest solos and given clinics at dozens of universities, including Juilliard, Yale, and University of Michigan. He has also dedicated much of his time to the study and research of breathing as it applies to brass musicians in an effort to advance his own playing along with that of his students.

During his studies, he noticed that musicians consistently ran into problems with their playing simply because they couldn't breathe in fast enough. What's more, the standard prescription to a student with this problem seemed to be to just tell them to "breathe in faster," to which the student would respond by taking a breath in and saying "well, I think that was faster." Improvement was marginal and slow.

Dr. Kimball knew there had to be a better way to help these students, but he found nothing among colleagues and current professionals that could offer the solution. That's when, in 2021, he teamed up with his engineering nephew Scott Dye to create his own solution. The result was the Inspiratory Flow Trainer, and today it helps musicians everywhere to strengthen their abilities.
